“Provincial Theater Festivals of Iran” set a record!

Theater Online: 480 theater groups and 5719 artists participated in 32 provincial and regional theater festivals that were held from November 29th to December 27th, 2023. These numbers indicate that the record of participation in this major event of the country’s performing arts has been broken.

According to the General Administration of Performing Arts, Fajr International Theater Festival is undoubtedly the most important theatrical event in the country, whose roots grow in provincial festivals.

Provincial theater festivals in 2023 started on November 29th and ended on December 27th.

The feature of this period of festivals, which was held in 31 provinces and regions of southern Kerman, was the addition of a street section. The winners of both the street and stage sections of this event made it to the Fajr Regional Theater Festival.

The presence and participation of artists in this period was very impressive. Out of the countless number of people who applied for participation in the 35th edition of the country’s provincial theater festivals, 5719 artists made it to this artistic event and competed all over the country.

After the release of the call for provincial festivals, 1331 drama groups registered their requests, of which 869 were stage shows and 462 were street shows.

After reviewing the work selection board in each province, a total of 480 plays made it to the festivals, including 283 stage plays and 197 street plays.

Jury panels evaluated the participating works for nearly a month and finally 130 shows were announced as the winners of this great national event, which includes 75 stage shows and 55 street works. After the competition of these works in the regional festival, the winners will enter the 42nd Fajr International Theater Festival.
